High Tatras

The High Tatras with a total area of 341 km², are the highest mountain range in Slovakia, stretching up into Poland. Resplendent with nature, its unique fauna and flora are carefully protected (Tatras National Park).
The region offers a bounty of opportunities for active holidays throughout the year: in summer there are 600 km of hiking trails and 300 km of marked cycle paths of varying difficulty, for all age categories. Local and foreign visitors come to admire glacial lakes, waterfalls, caves, mountain huts, and especially the mountain peaks.
In winter, the Tatras are a favourite for skiers heading primarily for the three TOP ski resorts: Tatranska Lomnica, Strbske Pleso and Stary Smokovec. In addition to Alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, there are 6 areas in the High Tatras reserved for ski alp sport. All the Tatras resorts offer ski schools for children and adults.
The winter idyll of the High Tatras can also be enjoyed without skis. The mountainous environment keeps open and maintained 20 km of hiking trails also in winter.
Tatranska Lomnica and Stary Smokovec add to the accommodation capacity of Strbske Pleso from vicinity (2 100 beds) by a further 2 500 beds in all categories. Beautiful historic hotels, now fully reconstructed, make for a special chapter of the region.
