Strbske Pleso in the Tatras National Park, at an altitude of 1350m above sea level, is the highest inhabited settlement in Slovakia. Thanks to the glacial lake of the same name, the region is considered the pearl of the High Tatras. From November to April, it is a prized ski destination for its natural conditions and snowmaking service. A wide range of accommodation facilities for “all types of wallets” will satisfy both the most demanding visitors as well as those preferring simplicity at the reasonable price.
Skiers will find at Strbske Pleso 8 km of well-maintained ski slopes and 6 ski lifts. It is renowned especially for its cross-country skiing stadium (25 km of light- and medium-difficulty tracks). In 1970 Strbske Pleso hosted the World Ski Championship in Nordic skiing disciplines and in 1999 to 2015 it held three World Winter Universiades. The Ice Hockey European Championship held in January 1925 on the frozen lake of Strbske Pleso surface are somewhat a historic curiosity. Since 1998, the Winter Slovak and Czechoslovak Company Games have been held here annually.
